More information on March 3 "Special Meeting"

Documents provided by the County 1:40pm on March 2, 2009
1. Miller Road Quarry aerial photo showing lack of vegetation
2. Quarry information summary (created by County Liaison?)
3. ODOT information for contractor
4. Location of block 36: timberland sold to BLM as part of Area
of Critical Environmental Concern (warning, this is 4 meg)

Note: according to a highly reliable source,
Applegate has stirred the pot by senting Ron Wyden a letter
claiming that the BLM protection of land in the Sandy Basin is an issue
          in the community
.
You might want to write Wyden and tell him that you
    -  support protecting the Areas of Critical Environmental Concern to enhance
the salmon run now that the Marmot Dam is gone,
=> as the BLM is doing by working with Western Rivers and
    - as far as an Amphitheater and the people supporting it.......

Background
1. This item was brought forward/requested by Rick Applegate
2. George "Amphitheater" Wilson is apparently strongly supporting/motivating this issue.
3. Mr. Wilson is apparently working to get his "friends" to the meeting
4. Annotated Agenda
ODOT Bid # 23629
ODOT's request for bids to repair the Sandy Slide area
a. As part of the bid awarded last week, it appears that the contractor will use aggregate from b. the old quarry at the south end of Miller road.
c. They will take out a bunch of rock and put in a bunch of fill.
d. Not nearly as big as the much more visible Mt. Hood Rock Products
e. This quarry was licensed in 1926 and predates zoning
f. While BLM has owned the land for quite a while, ODOT has quarrying rights
(this seems to date from the construction of the Mt. Hood Loop Highway...)

=> appears that this may clean up that messy quarry and restore vegetation

Discuss Cedar Ridge Property (Additional 254 acres).
Land adjacent to the Cedar Ridge property
a. apparently the County has managed to sell the timber land just south of the Salmon River
b. this is apparently to the BLM via Western Rivers (just like the other land)
c. the hillside is very steep and very (very) visible to the community
d. This seems to be part of the Parks endowment and needed to be logged soon.
e. BLM would seem to be likely to protect it as "area of critical environmental concern"

Note : Only these two items will be discussed by the board. Any public input will be heard during regular board meeting under

"persons to be heard"
This appears to keep the community "out" unless specifically invited by a board member such as the apparent cooperative relationship between Applegate and Wilson

5. More information is available upon request.
