Study Session
January 16, 2008

Attending: Nancy Dougherty, Chair; Bob Reeves, Vice-Chair; Judith Norval, Rick Applegate, Brigette Romeo, Robert Baker, Board members; Christine Roth, Clackamas County Staff Liaison

Excused: Barbara Saldivar, Pat Buckley, Shirley Dueber

Study session called to order at 1:15 pm by ND. Discussion of goals for meeting. Discussed committee formation and composition, also possibility of regularly scheduled study sessions with long range goals identified.

ND proposed following standing committees: Safety, Building, Tourism Development Committee, Bus.

Safety Committee Robert Baker, Pat Buckley. Tasks to include, but not limited to are Neighborhood Watch organization, contact with Sheriff regarding membership on the Advisory Committee, gather information on how an enhanced law enforcement district works.

Community Center Committee Barbara Saldivar, Judith Norval. Follow and assist the Women’s Club with fundraising efforts, building plans, community involvement and other tasks as needed.

Mountain Express Bus Committee Bob Reeves, Shirley Dueber, Robert Baker, Judith Norval Follow progress on bus, coordinate with Mt. Express as needed, update Villages Board and citizens on status of bus.

Business Outreach Brigette Romeo, Rick Applegate Connect with local businesses, welcome them and encourage participation in Village activities

Tourism Information Coordination Brigette Romeo, Shirley Dueber Coordinate information flow between Villages and Tourism Marking Programs from TDC, develop cooperative relationship with multiple tourism groups.

A signage committee will be created. The committee will look at how to develop a sign code (within Clackamas County code) that will be unique to the Mountain and feature Cascadian style. Will examine how current signs fit within this proposed code and how to encourage businesses to meet this standard.

Discussion about how to accomplish these tasks. May require regular monthly study sessions with specific topics to be addressed. Staff encouraged Board to pick one or two goals for 2008 and focus on them rather than giving equal emphasis to all projects. Board agreed and will have discussion to decide choices.

Decision to be made at regularly scheduled business meeting on whether to begin study sessions and what issues will be addressed and their order of discussion.

No date for additional study sessions scheduled at this time.
